Porque consumir a maçã

A maçã possui uma série de nutrientes benéficos ao organismo e, para usufruir desse resultado preventivo, é recomendado, no mínimo, o consumo de uma unidade ou de um copo de suco da fruta por dia. É considerada uma escova de dentes natural e, embora não limpe propriamente os dentes, tem função importante no auxílio à higiene bucal, pois é um alimento detergente, ou seja, é capaz de limpar a superfície dos dentes durante a mastigação.

Dentre alguns benefícios da maçã, estão os flavonoides que combatem os radicais livres, responsáveis pelo envelhecimento precoce, possui propriedades antioxidantes e efeitos protetores no sistema cardiovascular, renal e hepático, sem falar na quantidade de fibras que atuam no sistema digestório  . Na maçã há fibras que atuam no sistema digestório, vitaminas B1 e B2 que ajudam a regular o sistema nervoso.

É constituída de pectina, caracterizada como fibra solúvel. É encontrada na casca e ao redor das sementes, apresentando aspecto gomoso. A pectina auxilia na diminuição do colesterol sérico do organismo, pois ela absorve os ácidos biliares e não promove a reciclagem dos mesmos. Desta forma o organismo mobiliza o colesterol para a formação de novos ácidos biliares . Além de ligar-se aos ácidos biliares, a pectina também pode estabelecer ligações com compostos minerais e lipídios, auxiliando na diminuição do colesterol livre presente no sangue.

Apesar de suas variedades, não existem grandes diferenças nutricionais entre os tipos de maçã. No entanto, pode haver diferença no tamanho, cor e sabor. As maçãs vermelhas, por exemplo, costumam ter sabor mais adocicado que as verdes, que geralmente são mais ácidas.

 Para não ter erro na hora da compra, é importante observar se a maçã está firme e dar preferência àquelas com coloração mais viva. A casca deve estar íntegra, sem amassados, cicatrizes, furos ou indícios da presença de larvas ou insetos.
